KARACHI: Senior Baloch leader Sardar Attaullah Mengal on Tuesday regretted that Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has requested to play a role in normalising the Balochistan situation, especially helping bring and end to target killings of the Punjabi people there.
His response came during his meeting with the Punjab chief minister who called on him at his Karachi residence on the last day of his two-day visit to the city. Mengal told reporters after the meeting that he expressed his regrets in view of bitter experiences of the Baloch people in the past. He said the present situation in Balochistan was result of "establishment's policies". "Now the situation is out of our control and the young generation has taken matters in into its own hands," he said. He said the people of Balochistan no longer trust the PML-N, the PPP and the institutions of the country. Sharif himself admitted after the meeting that "Mengal appeared very angry". Talking to media personnel at the Jinnah International Airport before leaving for Punjab, he said his meeting with Mengal was very different than the one held 18 years ago. Sharif, however, said the grievances of Baloch leadership would have to be removed. He said meetings with Baloch leaders would continue in the coming days.
