Search operations in Pasni paralyse life, business

* Security agencies whisked away over 9 people in 5-day drive
* Sources say police resented illegal operation by security agencies

Quetta: The life of business and trade in coastal township of Balochistan, Pasni, is paralysed since May 28 when, according to local people and some police officials, the Coast Guard and Frontier Corps (FC) carried out a massive search operation.

Most of the people were reluctant to disclose anything about the matter. Anyhow, some came forward and broke ice. More than nine people had been allegedly picked up during the operation, which lasted for five days.

Spokesperson for the FC, however, declined that the paramilitary force was involved in any operation in Pasni.

According to a local journalist, Sajid Noor, the FC and Coast Guard were busy in illegal search operation in Pasni for the last five days. He maintained that on Monday at about 11 am, three vehicles of the FC and Coast Guard had conducted a raid at a local hotel.

“FC and Coast Guard officials ordered all the people present in the hotel to stand up, form a queue and asked them to say ‘Pakistan Zindabad’, which they did,” said the journalist.

Then they ordered the people to say “Dr Allah Nazer and Azad Balochistan Murdabaad” but they refused to do so. At this, the security officials beat them up, destroyed the hotel and tore a picture of Human Rights Commission activist, Siddiq Edo. The people were also asked to say “Dr Allah Nazer is an agent of India”.

Afterwards, the security officials shot fires in the air which created panic in the area. Shopkeepers in the nearby market got scared and ran away leaving their shops open. Those present in the hotel were asked to run to the street.

The security personnel then chased them and whisked away two employees of the hotel, namely, Nadeem Baloch and Arif Sher Muhammad. Locals condemned the kidnapping.

The same day, the FC, police and ATF raided the residence of Pasni Fish Harbour President Shahid Sabzal and arrested B and R employee Dil Pul Baloch, fishermen Saeed Baloch and Khudadad Baloch and destroyed the house.

After this, Coast Guard and FC personnel raided the house of Khudadad in Ghulam Sarwar Street, and destroyed the furniture therein. Later, security officials reached transporter Nazeer Baloch’s house and tortured his mother. They took Nazeer to an undisclosed location.

Continuing their operation, the FC and Coast Guard then handled BSO-Azad worker Afzal Dilbar and his uncle roughly. Next search operation was carried out in Ghulam Sarwar Street ward no 1, where at the house of one Shakidad, a student namely Essa was thrashed so badly that he had to be taken to a hospital.

In evening on Monday, security agencies raided the residence of one of Bahir Abdi’s relatives in Gwadar and allegedly took him away. Station House Officer Qasim Baloch said a week ago, unidentified armed people had attacked security forces, adding that a case was registered against political activists. “The Coast Guard with the help of the Frontier Corps had started a search operation in Pasni. Even local administration was not informed about this operation,” he said.
