TEHRAN (Reuters) - Iran accused Britain, France, Sweden and other Western nations on Wednesday of supporting an exiled group that Iranian officials say planned terrorist acts in the country, state media reported.
"The Foreign Ministry summoned the British ambassador to express its harsh criticism over backing of his country and some other Western states of the group that wanted to carry out terrorist acts in the country," the IRNA news agency reported.
Iran said it had arrested members of the opposition group, the Mujahedeen Khalq, and accused them of having planned to carry out "terrorist activities" in Tehran on Saturday.
Members of the group were arrested by the Intelligence Ministry before they could carry out plans to detonate bombs in Tehran, the news agency reported. A British Foreign Office spokeswoman dismissed the accusations. A Swedish Foreign Ministry spokesman said that the matter was being looked into and that he had no other comments.
In an e-mail message on Wednesday, the opposition group denied that any of its members had been arrested in Tehran.
